Part 2: Visualizing 3D Modeling

Taking Visualization into a Whole New Level

In our previous post, we showed you what the Laser Scanner can bring to you in the form of Point Clouds, which, if you recall, is the combination of millions of points in a 3D space. Towards the end of the post, we mentioned 3D Modelling, which is the conversion of the above said Point Clouds into 3D Modelling Elements, perfect for processes such as Building Information Modelling, Facility Management etc.

Without further ado, let's have a look at what the above actually looks like!

3D Modelling of a Plant

Here you can see a 3D Model that has pipes, ducts, doors, columns and other elements, as we call it. This 3D model was obtained directly with Point Cloud as the reference, with unbeatable precision and accuracy.

Without the Point Cloud data, how long would we need to measure every single pipe, duct and column? Probably forever.

With this 3D Model, just imagine what can the Engineers, Architects, Facility Managers and other professionals do? The potential is limitless.

Transition from Point Cloud to 3D Model

3 Types.jpg

Here, we can see the step-by-step transition from Point Cloud to the 3D BIM Model.

The 1st part is entirely Point Cloud, while the 2nd part shows the transition, and finally the 3rd part shows the standalone 3D Model.

This can be applied to a whole manufacturing plant, commercial building or heritage site, for purposes such as documentation, architecture, engineering, monitoring or maintenance.

This is a snapshot of how a portion of a plant looks like in the 3D Model. Without looking closely, you'd probably mistake it for a picture of a HD Camera, which is precisely why professionals are adopting such practices.

The realism and accuracy of this technology, coupled with the countless applications that comes with it, is simply a no brainer when it comes to efficiency and productivity!
