Point Cloud - Convenience with Accuracy
We have been trying to describe what we do, and what the 3D Laser Scanner can do, but we figured that nothing beats some visualization of the data that we work with on a day-to-day basis!
3D Laser Scanning for Residential: 2-Storey Semi-Detached
As you can see below, the laser scanner is able to capture the dimensions of the entire structure accurately and in considerably quick time. The result? Point Cloud data that enables the user to perform measurements, visualize the place, and even determine the elevation of the respective areas.
Here you can see how measurements can be performed, with x, y and z coordinates as well. Now no one would have to climb into elevated areas, which makes things safer and more convenient.
One aspect of 3D Laser Scanning that we were going on about is the ability to create 2D Floor Plans. As you can see below, a simple rotation of the Point Cloud data with a cross sectional cut enables the floor plan of the structure to be seen clearly. With programmes such as AutoCAD, you can then easily trace out the floor plan from the data.
What's better, however, is the ability to create 3D Models using programmes such as AutoDesk Revit out of the Point Cloud Data. With the 3D model, you can easily rotate the model to whichever view you like, and create a cross section again, which yields you the 2D drawing of that particular view. That's convenience in a nutshell for you.
The above are just based on the scans of a 2-Storey Semi-Detached, which forms just a tiny part of what we normally do. Manufacturing Plants, Facilities, Apartments and even Offices are part and parcel of what our clients request as well. These areas are usually more complicated, considering the countless number of pipes, ducts, cable trays and other miscellaneous things that our clients want documented.
